About Nakajima Chinami
Nakajima Chinami was born in Obuse where his family evacuated during the war. In 1969, he graduated from the Nihon-ga department of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music, and completed his graduate studies in 1971. In 1979 he received the Yamatane Museum of Art Exhibition Award for Excellence. As one of the finest contemporary Japanese painters, he is known for his broad range, encompassing works portraying fresh, vibrant flowers such as sakura, large-format portraits rich with social and religious meaning, as well as book covers and illustrations. In 2000 he took office to the professor of the design department of the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music.
